2-Time NASCAR Champion Mike Olsen to Join 10th Annual Busch Sport Scene Charity Ride
Two Time NASCAR Champion Mike Olsen will once again participate in the Busch Sport Scene Ride for Charity. The 2001 & 2006 NASCAR Camping World Series Champion has confirmed that he will be at the 10th annual charity event on January 31st at the Club House Restaurant in Rangeley, Maine.
The event has a rich history of support from champions of NASCAR's Grand National division. Mike will join the newly crowned NASCAR Camping World Series Champion, Matt Kobyluck, at this years event. Over the years, seven different NASCAR champions have attended the event: Jamie Aube, Dale Shaw, Dave Dion, Kelly Moore, Brad Leighton, Mike Olsen and Andy Santerre.
Olsen retired from full-time racing at the end of the 2007 season, but still competes on a limited schedule. In 2008 Olsen and his Fadden Racing Team fielded a full time effort for Max Dumarey in the NASCAR Camping World Series. Mike raced four NASCAR races himself in 2008, earning three top tens in those four events. Two of his races came at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, where he finished seventh in both events.
Olsen, the grandson of legendary New England racer Stub Fadden, has competed in NASCAR events for three decades now. While he also competed in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in the late 1990's, Mike made his mark in NASCAR's Camping World Series where he won six events to go with his two championships.
"Mike and his race team have been tremendous supporters of this charity event over the years," event organizer and Busch Sport Scene Publisher George Campbell said. "This event would not have become such a success over the years with out people like Mike participating. Just adding his name and reputation to our roster of supporters raises the level credibility and expectations to this event."
Olsen will join Matt Kobyluck at the event. Matt became the first Native American to win a NASCAR Championship in 2008 when he clinched the Camping World Series title at Dover International Speedway last September with his third-place finish in the Sunoco 150. Matt will be coming to Rangeley with his Mohegan Sun race team following they're big win in the NASCAR All Star Showdown race in California last weekend.
The event includes a poker run snowmobile ride during the day followed by a full evening of entertainment. The evening's festivities will include a live auction loaded with lots of great sports memorabilia and racing related items and race tickets. The 2008 Busch Sport Scene Driver of the Year will be announced at the event and the popular Mainely Motorsports TV show will be on hand taping the days events. A comedy show featuring two nationally known comedians, Rob Steen & Larry Myles, will cap off the full day of events.
The proceeds go to several charities including the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Maine Special Olympics, Travis Roy Foundation, Rangeley Snowmobile Club, Busch Sport Scene Scholarship Fund and the Camping World Series Women's Auxiliary and their various charities.
Tickets will be $15 the day of the event. Busch Sport Scene is a New England based sports magazine. Current Busch Sport Scene subscribers will receive a $5 discount on the day of the event, as will NASCAR, PASS & ACT team members that present their licenses.
