Jordan Place awarded the 5th Annual Busch
Sport Scene Scholarship
20 Year old Jordan Place has been awarded the 5th Annual
Busch Sport Scene Scholarship Award. The $1000
scholarship is awarded each year to a student who has had
a connection to the New England based sports publication.
Jordan is a graduate of Deering High School in Portland,
Maine and is currently attending college full time at the
University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. His
courses include sports marketing, human resource
management, financial accounting and organizational
behavior.
"Thank you very much," Jordan said upon hearing
of the award. "It means a lot to me that you see
qualities in me that are deserving of this
scholarship."
The scholarship was awarded at the 10th annual Busch
Sport Scene Snowmobile Ride for Charity on January 31st
in Rangeley, Maine. Jordan was unable to be at the event,
but his father, James Place, of Turner, Maine, was on
hand to accept the award for Jordan.
"Thank you so much," Jordan's surprised dad
said, "he's such a great kid, he has made the Dean's
list the past two semesters. This will mean a lot to him,
thank you again, I really appreciate this."
Busch Sport Scene publisher George Campbell presented the
award.
"It makes me very happy to help a deserving student
continue their education," Campbell said. "I
know how challenging advancing your education can be, and
my hope is that this scholarship each year will help
provide some funding and motivation to these young
students who have such a bright future."
$500 of the scholarship was raised at the annual Busch
Sport Scene charity event this year, and Steve & Peg
Griswold matched the $500 to bring the total amount to
$1000.
Steve & Peg owned the #55 championship winning race
team in the NASCAR Busch North Series. They are also part
of the ownership group of the new Boston Celtic's
affiliated minor league basketball team coming to
Portland, Maine.
"It's a great thing they do each year and I'm just
glad we can be a part of it," Steve said, refering
to the Busch Sport Scene Charity Ride and Auction.
"We're very proud and honored to be given this
opportunity to support the scholarship and this year's
worthy candidate," Peg added.
Previous winners of the annual $1000 Busch Sport Scene
Scholarship Award were Mike Penfold, Dave Fish and Dylan
Lajoie, who received the award twice.
