Known Comedians Coming to Turner on May 13th

Comedian Rob Steen
Two nationally known comics will be coming
to Turner for a special one night show on Friday May 13, 2011. Popular
Massachusetts based comedian Rob Steen will perform with fellow New Englander
Tom Hayes. Both have extensive backgrounds performing for live audiences, as
well as television appearances.
Steen has been featured on many television
shows including ‘The Late Show with Dave Letterman’ where he has been a
frequent guest. He has also appeared on Comedy Central, MTV and even appeared on
America’s Funniest People on ABC. He has performed with many other top
comedians including George Carlin, Joan Rivers and the Smothers Brothers. He has
also worked with other regional comics including Bob Marley and Lenny Clark.
Rob is very high energy and brings the
entire audience together as a group with his unique style of crowd
participation. He has been compared to Robin Williams due to his fast paced
delivery and quick wit. He is known for working the crowd and making every show
different, which has made him one of the most requested comedians in the
Northeast.
The show will be held at the Turner
Highlands Country Club in Turner. Turner Highlands co-owner George Chiasson is
thrilled to bring a pair of well-known comics to his venue.
“We’ve wanted to bring a show like this
to Turner for a while,” Chiasson said. “Rob was highly recommended and we
worked hard to find a date that would work to get him here this year. It should
be a very fun night for everyone.”
Rob does over 350 shows each year, and he is
working with a cruise line during the month of May, so finding a date to perform
in Turner was not easy.
“I have a friend from Turner that has been
trying to get me to do a show in that area,” Rob said. “When George
contacted me and wanted to try to do a show this spring, it was hard to find a
date. I have shows booked on all but two days in May, and it just happened that
one of those dates was May 13th, so we were able to put this show together.
I’m really looking forward to having some fun that night. I know a few of the
people that will be there, and I’m planning to have a lot of fun with everyone
there.”
Rob pays great attention to detail and is
able to adjust his act to any crowd. This ability to adapt to any situation
along with his great ability to interact with the crowd has made his shows very
popular. He is great at incorporating the whole audience into his act.
Adding to the fun on the 13th with Rob will
be Tom Hayes. For the past 20 years Hayes has performed shows at New England
comedy clubs, including frequently headlining at the Comedy Connection in
Boston. He has opened for famous comedians like Phyllis Diller and Henny
Youngman and even classic rock bands like the Four Tops and the Four Seasons.
He has received numerous awards over his
career. One of the awards he is most proud of came from the Showtime Cable
Network when they honored him as their ‘Funniest Person’ award winner.
“I have worked with Tom quite a bit,”
Steen says. “He will make this show something people will definitely enjoy,
he’s really a special performer that makes everyone laugh and enjoy
themselves. We did a show recently that earned us a standing ovation I’ll
never forget. I am looking forward to bringing this type of show to the Turner
Highlands in May.”
Tickets for the event include a special
buffet and ticket to the show. The buffet starts at 6:30PM with the
approximately 90 minute show starting at 8PM. For more details and ticket
information, call 207-224-7060.
Tom Hayes
Busch Sport Scene publisher George Campbell will be attending the show, and invites everyone that has participated in our past comedy shows in Rangeley.
"Many Busch Sport Scene readers will remember Rob from a few of our Busch Sport Scene Charity Events," Campbell said. "Rob is always funny and puts on a great show. Everyone that has seen him at our events knows this. Since there are no races to go to in Maine that day, its a great chance for people in the area that have supported the charity event in Rangeley to get together and have some fun and laughs."
Turner Highlands hosted the 'after party' for Campbell's Busch North Scene: A Ten Year Retrospective book launch last fall.
"The Highlands is a great place, and many of the Busch Sport Scene readers and supporters are familiar with the restaurant," Campbell continued. "I am looking forward to the show, and getting together with some friends for a few laughs."
